Plot Outline: Story of international intrigue involving a university professor, an Arab prime minister, a ruthless businessman, a beautiful spy, and hieroglyphics.
Plot: Professor David Pollock (Gregory Peck) is an expert in ancient Arabic hieroglyphics. A Middle Eastern Prime Minister convinces Pollock to infiltrate the organization of a man named Beshraavi (Alan Badel), who is involved in a plot against the Prime Minister. The nature of the plot is believed to be found in a hieroglyphic code. Beshraavis mistress, Yasmin Azir (Sophia Loren) is a mystery intertwined in the plot. Pollock needs her help, but when she repeatedly seems to double cross him in one escapade after another, he cant decide on whose side she is working. Ultimately working together, Pollock and Yasmin decipher the plot and set out to stop an assassination of the Prime Minister.

Continuity: At the beginning of the chase at the end of the movie, David rips the sides of Yasmins skirt about halfway so that she can ride the horse. In following shots both sides of her skirt are ripped much higher.

• Producer Arthur Freed wanted Marge Champion to star in this movie, but at the time Champion didnt want to break up her dance act with her husband Gower Champion. So she persuaded Freed that he should cast a French girl in the role instead.
• The part of David Pollock was originally written for Cary Grant. When Gregory Peck had trouble getting the humor right in a line, hed smile and tell director Stanley Donen “Remember, Im no Cary Grant.”
• Gregory Peck found the stunts particularly difficult because of an old leg injury due to horseback riding. So during the cornstalk scene Peck had to keep telling Sophia Loren to slow down because it looked as if she were rescuing him and not the other way around.
